Having been established in Dunedin’s Octagon for well over a decade, we believe we have the recipe just right! If you fancy a quick snack off the menu, something from the well stocked cake cabinet including gluten free choices, or are in for the whole dining experience. Nova Café can cater for your every need. We are famous for our breakfasts and produce an array of the best desserts in town. Our lunch and dinner menus feature local seafood, fresh produce, and change regularly to reflect the seasons. We have a superb selection of local Central Otago wines to match our delicious food.

Description

Owners of Nova since August 2018 Born and bred right here in Dunedin, the lads are both passionate Dunedinites and both agree, ‘there is no better place to bring up a family’. Between them they have two decades of experience working in Commercial Insurance but a few years ago the desire to work for themselves and for Nick to bring his family back to Dunedin took hold and they purchased Stuart St Brew Bar in 2016 and have never looked back. The purchase of Jizo Japanese restaurant coincided with Nova; it was a big call but luckily these guys love a challenge. Mark lives on his 50-acre sheep farm near Smails Beach with his wife Kelly (a radiographer at Dunedin Hospital) and gorgeous girls Bonnie & Lola. Mark is obsessed with the sea! Whether fishing for blue cod, diving for paua or surfing down off his doorstep he feels at home in the water. Nick moved from his busy life in Auckland to East Taieri with wife Rebecca (Registered Nurse) and three beautiful kids, Jack, Isla and Lucy. When Nick gets the opportunity, he will head for the ski fields! Having spent a lot of time traveling and living away from Dunedin, he looks forward to introducing his kids to all that the South has to offer. Resident Head Chef Mat Lewis also joined the business in August 2018. Mat brings with him over 20 years experience in the kitchen spending some of that time working for TV Celebrity and internationally renowned chef Michael Van De Elzen (author of The Food Truck Cookbook) and as Head Chef for Molten Restaurant in Auckland. Molten was the winner of numerous Metro and Cuisine accolades and awards throughout its time sitting comfortably at the top of the Auckland dining scene. Mat has done an exceptional job revamping the kitchen and bringing a new menu to life and will continue to do so where our menu will change with the season. Meet Carlie Paterson, our General Manager and head of exceptional service here at Nova since 2016. Originally from Waikaia, Carlie grew up on a 3rd generation farm managing 3600 acres with beef, deer and sheep. Let Carlie and her team look after all of your needs here at Nova where we strive to go above and beyond.
