There are no fixed daily itineraries apart from the night’s destination, you make your own way, in your own time. The three-day classic walk gives you the time to hike the side tracks (all listed in your guide booklet), watch the birds and wildlife, swim, sunbathe, read, play games, beach-comb, or take more photos. You have plenty of time to explore more and relax in the beauty that is Banks Peninsula. The leisurely pace of this walk makes it an option open to all age groups. It is also excellent as a ‘first tramp’ for the novice walker, or as a first/last tramp for the visitor flying to or from Christchurch airport.
Description
Our 29km hike follows farm tracks and forest trails, coastal bush and spectacular cliffs. Each nights accommodation is different with our purpose built Onuku Trampers Huts, our historic Flea Bay cottage and our Stony Bay Village, each reflecting the personality of the landowner.
Banks Track takes our walkers through otherwise inaccessible countryside, through our huge back yards, over an extinct volcano, passing by two marine reserves, and a number of land reserves including the award winning Hinewai Reserve.
Walkers can choose their preferred walking option.
Our most popular walk is the Three Day Classic Walk with pack cartage, a private room option, a free penguin tour (in season) and an option to book a kayak trip in the Pohatu Marine Reserve .
For fitter and faster walkers who prefer to spend more of the day walking we offer our Two Day Hikers Option.
We are a collection of working farms working towards conservation and Hinewai Reserve, a trust owned nature reserve. Banks Track traverses the award winning "Wildside" project of Banks Peninsula.
Banks Track has been operating since 1989.
Refund Policy: A 90% refund will be made when at least 28 days notice is given. A 50% refund will be made when at least 7 days notice is given otherwise payment is forfeited. Cancelled bookings may be refilled. All activities have an element of risk and all walkers undertaking Banks Track do so voluntarily and at their own risk. We will do all in our power to maintain our track and accommodation in a safe condition for your enjoyment. Banks Track exclude to the fullest extent possible under law all liability for loss or damage suffered by the walker in relation to the Banks Track. Banks Track reserves all rights to cancel any activity at its discretion for (but not limited to) any of the following reasons: a) weather conditions; b) unsuitability of walker(s) due to reasons such as ill health poor fitness intoxication or any other reasons rendering a walker unsuitable or unfit to participate in the activity; c) any other circumstances which are beyond the reasonable control Banks Track.
